Balaji Mahendran, presently an UNV (National Specialist Category) - District Youth Officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, in a joint project of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He was also a fellow of the prestigious SBI Youth for India Fellowship Programme of State Bank of India Foundation and Gandhi Fellowship programme of Piramal Foundation. His interest on academics also made him to crack the National Level Examinations like UGC NET and JRF.
Balaji’s experience with IRCDS
“Being an undergraduate student of social work during the period 2013 -2016, I worked as a full-time volunteer in all the projects of IRCDS for 2 years (2014-2016) under the direct supervision of Mr. Stephen, the programme manager and Mr. Mahesh, the programme coordinator. IRCDS was my first experience of field work in the social development sector which exposed me to the grassroot level of welfare system in Tiruvallur District . This volunteering work has not only provided me an opportunity for my professional growth and engaged me to contributed to the development of the marginalized communities especially, SC, ST, people with disability and brickkiln workers. The knowledge, skills, and techniques acquired from IRCDS made me as competent professional developmental worker which helped me to develop my career in development sector thereafter, I delights”
