The Honourable Minister of Adi Dravidar & Tribal Welfare, Tmt. Kayal Vizhi Selvaraj, distributed benefits valued at Rs 1.76 crores to 290 tribal people (90 through IRCDS NGO, 100 through Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, and 100 through the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources). This event took place on 23.8.2024 at Sathurangapettai, Poondi Block, Tiruvallur District, in the presence of the Secretary to the Government of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Additional Secretary, Director of Tribal Welfare, Tiruvallur MLA Thiru. V.G. Rajendran, the District Revenue Officer, District Adi Dravidar & Tribal Welfare Officer, and the RDO.
As part of this initiative, IRCDS, one of the implementing partners for livelihood promotion among tribals with funding support from the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, facilitated the distribution of fishing boats, nets, pushcarts, and freezer boxes worth Rs 37.19 lakhs to 90 tribal people engaged in fishing at Poondi Lake. This collaborative effort underscores our commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of tribal communities.
