After completing his school and college studies, he joined as a science teacher in the year 1980. In addition as a qualification as a teacher, he also had a Master’s degree in Sociology and another one in Education. Through an encounter with a differently abled boy from Tiruvallur District ( at the age of 34 years) he was inspired to start a school in Tiruvallur District in order to give the children a means to build themselves, a better future. The school soon evolved into a development organization covering all marginalized groups
Integrated Rural Community Development Society (IRCDS) is an NGO established by Mr. P. Titus in the year 1986. He founded IRCDS with a vision to serve the poor and marginalized people of Tiruvallur District. He served as a school teacher for 24 years Next to guiding the staff, he also liaised with Government departments, funding agencies and partner NGOs to ensure that all projects are carried out effectively and efficiently. He was a member of different District level Government Committees and State level NGO Networks.
His contribution for the past 35 years to the development of rural communities has been recognized and awarded by the Government, Lions Club, Chennai Citizen Forum and reputed NGOs across the country.
He passed away on 2nd May 2021. He was a social worker par excellence, a devoted leader, grass-root worker, able manager and above all a nice human being who showered love and affection to everyone he met. He founded and led IRCDS for the past 35 years as the Chief Functionary and now the organization stands tall as one of the reputed institutions in the state.
But as they say, “The Show Must Go On” and all the staff members of IRCDS have taken this loss in their strides and will ensure the legacy of Mr. P. Titus continues to thrive. IRCDS continues to address the root causes of poverty through its dedicated team of professional and experienced staff members.
